Formed in 1936, Maccabi Herzliya won their first ever trophy in April 2007, when they won the Toto Cup Al - beating Hapoel Kfar Saba 2-1 in the final after extra time, in front of only 2,000 people. The victory came just a year after Herzliya won promotion from the second level in Israel, the Liga Leumit. Though the Toto Cup is a minor competition in Israel, it nevertheless carries the biggest cash prize in any Israeli sporting event - a prize of around US$100,000.
